Un cri court
In Un cri court (court is a homonym for “short” and “runs,” while un cri means “a cry”), a young man wearing a white T-shirt runs and jumps in place, shrouded in darkness. Every now and then, the runner gives a sharp, staccato cry, like an anguished lament. A rapidly ticking metronome times his pace even as it accompanies the shouts wracking his body, making him double over. His running movement suggests a kind of endless flight, but the lack of any context or clue makes it impossible to locate the video in a specific time or place. The surrounding blackness lends a Caravagesque feel to the white-garbed man emerging from the shadow. The protagonist is a young Algerian composer of classical music, Ahmed, who finally agreed to participate after lengthy discussions with the artist. GC
