A star-shaped piece of hashish is displayed in a Plexiglas box attached to the wall. Five little holes on the front of the box, facing the viewer, allow the odor to escape into the empty room reserved for this olfactory experience. The motif of the star alludes to other works on ornamental forms.
Presented like a painting, it functions here like an icon.
The subversive invitation of the title, Oui (“yes”), evokes a liberation that will never take place, that will go no further than a whiff, insolently convincing the viewer of the authentic nature of the illicit substance, physically present right under the nose. GC
